Memory

Suddenly a new dimension
the past a fairground where
the machines only play
one tune -- yours won’t be
    the same.
While the coin plays
its way through, wander
the sideshows of things
you know used to matter
   just not now
   or why.

Lights dazzle
organ polka peals
receding as the carousel
revolves, the horses dreaming
of their next ride
knowing where the rider will
dismount, only a little changed.
